Background

Ugands Martyri Hospital (UMH) Diocese of Jinja, is a newly established state-of-the-art Private Not for Profit (PNFP) hospital in Jinja oty. It is founded by Trustee of Catholic Diocese of Jinga, under the Ecclesiastical Province of Tororo Arch Diocese in Eastern Uganda. Uganda Martyri hospital micions a clinical excellence with Christ-centered, compassion, aiming to heal the body, mind and spreit while seming both affluent and vulnerable communities without decrimination, envisaged to be a teaching and research hospital, offering quality and allotatile Goudly touch services to the general population. The applicants must have valid professional operation license and reginered with the wantus council bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis: Conduct patient consultations, taking comprehensive medical histories and performing physical examinations. Diagnose common acute and chronic medical conditions. Identify clinical red flags and recognize signs of serious or life-threatening conditions requiring urgent intervention.
  • Treatment & Patient Management: Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans. Prescribe medications in accordance with national treatment guidelines and formularies. Manage patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings, including initiating and adjusting care plans. Monitor patient progress, review treatment outcomes, and adjust care as necessary.
  • Emergency Care: Provide rapid assessment and stabilization for urgent and emergency cases. Manage medical emergencies, including trauma, respiratory distress, cardiac events, and acute infections. Administer first aid and emergency interventions as required.
  • Minor Surgical & Medical Procedures: Perform minor surgical procedures such as suturing wounds, incision and drainage of abscesses, and removal of foreign bodies. Conduct medical procedures such as lumbar punctures, joint aspirations, and wound debridement as per training and scope of practice.
  • Referral & Coordination: Identify patients requiring specialist care and make timely referrals to Medical Officers, Consultants, or higher-level facilities. Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory staff, to ensure integrated patient care. Facilitate continuity of care through proper handover and follow-up.
  • Record Keeping & Documentation: Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient medical records. Document clinical findings, treatment provided, and follow-up plans. Prepare reports on clinical activities and patient outcomes as required.
  • Patient & Family Education: Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognosis clearly to patients and families. Provide health education on disease prevention, treatment adherence, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. Counsel patients on chronic disease management and lifestyle modifications.
  • Health Promotion & Disease Prevention: Participate in community health outreach programs and health promotion activities. Support immunization programs, disease surveillance, and public health initiatives. Educate communities on preventive healthcare practices and early detection of diseases.
  • Supervision & Mentorship: Supervise and mentor junior clinical staff, including intern clinical officers and student clinical officers. Provide guidance and support to nursing and support staff on clinical matters.
  • Continuous Learning & Quality Improvement: Participate in continuous professional development, including training, workshops, and clinical meetings. Stay updated on current medical guidelines, treatment protocols, and best practices. Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Work collaboratively with Medical Officers, Nurses, Pharmacists, Laboratory Technologists, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions. Foster a positive and supportive working environment.
  • Safely positioned and monitored patients during pre-operative and post-operative phases.
  • Accurate inventory records and stock management of medical sundries and supplies.
  • Safe disposal of biomedical and surgical waste.
  • Preparation: Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical tools using autoclaves and chemical protocols. Set up surgical trays, equipment, and operating tables.
  • Intra-Operative Support: Assist surgeons and anesthetists to scrub. gown. and glove. Pass instruments, cut sutures, apply dressings, and handle laboratory specimens.
  • Patient Care: Verify patient identity and surgical site checklists. Transport and position patients safely on and off the operating table. Provide basic care in the recovery room.
  • Infection Control & Safety: Adhere strictly to national infection prevention and control (IPC) standards. Safely dispose of hazardous waste.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of medicines, consumables. and linens, reporting shortages or drafting requisitions for replenishment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health.
  • Registered with the relevant professional regulatory body (e.g., Uganda Allied Health Professionals Council, Kenya Clinical Officers Council).
  • Valid practicing license.
  • Relevant clinical experience in a hospital or health center setting.
  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE/O-Level) equivalent.
  • A recognized Certificate in Theatre Techniques or Medical Theatre Assistant course (such as those from certified health training institutions or regional referral hospital programs).
  • Registration with the Allied Health Practitioners Council (where applicable) and a valid practicing license.

Experience

1 to 2 years of relevant working experience in a busy hospital surgical environment is typically preferred.
