LIBRARY ASSISTANT
Job Purpose
To support the effective operation of the school library by assisting students and staff with access to books, journals, digital resources and other learning materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist students and staff in locating library resources.
- Issue and receive books and other library materials.
- Maintain accurate borrowing and return records.
- Catalogue and classify new library materials.
- Shelve books and maintain an organised library environment.
- Assist users in searching electronic and physical library resources.
- Support the operation of digital library management systems.
- Monitor overdue books and follow up on outstanding materials.
- Assist with library registration and user records.
- Maintain library statistics and prepare routine reports.
- Support orientation sessions for new students on library services.
- Ensure library resources are handled properly.
- Maintain a quiet, clean and conducive learning environment.
- Assist with stocktaking and identification of missing or damaged materials.
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science, Library Studies or a related field from a recognised institution.
- Computer literacy, including digital library management systems.
- Experience working in an academic library or health-training institution is an added advantage.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Strong organisational skills.
