Chef
Job Purpose
To prepare high-quality, safe, hygienic and appealing meals for motel guests while maintaining consistent food quality, portion control, kitchen cleanliness and efficient kitchen operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Chef will:
- Prepare and cook meals according to the motel's menu and required standards.
- Ensure food is prepared in a timely and presentable manner.
- Follow recipes, portion requirements and food-quality standards.
- Prepare ingredients through washing, cutting, marinating and other appropriate processes.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of food items.
- Monitor the freshness and quality of ingredients.
- Minimise food wastage through proper planning, preparation and storage.
- Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ensure kitchen equipment, utensils and work surfaces are properly cleaned and sanitised.
- Follow food safety and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or spoilage to the supervisor.
- Assist with menu planning and suggest new dishes where appropriate.
- Maintain proper portion control and presentation.
- Coordinate with waiters/waitresses to ensure orders are prepared correctly and on time.
- Store food appropriately and maintain proper temperature controls.
- Ensure leftovers are handled and stored safely in accordance with food safety procedures.
- Support kitchen assistants and other kitchen staff where required.
- Report faulty kitchen equipment or maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain discipline, teamwork and professionalism within the kitchen.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head Chef or motel management.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Catering, Food Production, Culinary Arts, Hotel Management or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant practical experience in a restaurant, hotel, motel or catering environment is an advantage.
- Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, kitchen hygiene and food safety.
