Job Description
Background Established in 1961, Uganda Cooperative Alliance Ltd. (UCA) is the Apex body for all registered cooperative societies in Uganda covering different sectors of the economy. UCA serves as the voice of the cooperative movement both nationally and Internationally with a mandate to consider, and make recommendations and representation to the Government on matters of policy relating to the cooperative movement and any other matter affecting registered cooperative societies in general or in particular. UCA is also mandated to carry out arbitration/dispute resolution whenever they arise in Cooperatives, provides capacity building/Institutional Development support, lobby and advocacy, resource mobilization for the cooperative movement, and any other cooperative development work. UCA’s Vision is “A strong and vibrant umbrella organization of prosperous cooperatives with empowered members” and with a mission “To provide high-quality support services to cooperatives and their members on a sustainable basis”.

Considering UCA’s mandate and in collaboration with Agriterra, “an International Organization specializing in Professionalizing Cooperatives and Farmer Organizations for sustainable social-economic development” is seeking to recruit a suitable, competent, dynamic, highly creative, well-grounded and experienced person for the position of Lobby and Advocacy expert.

DUTY STATION: UCA Head Office-Kampala
REPORTS TO: The General Secretary

Job purpose
The primary role of the Lobby and Advocacy expert will be to develop a more effective and efficient advocacy agenda for UCA, Agriterra, and the Cooperative movement in Uganda. He/she will be responsible for translating policy material and platforms into effective and efficient advocacy actions for UCA and Agriterra.

Specifically, the lobby and advocacy expert will be required to:

Support management and leadership with strategic planning and implementation of policy and regulatory framework using the recommended Advocacy tool.
Organize, Participate, and facilitate training, seminars, conferences, and meetings on behalf of UCA and her partner Agriterra and stakeholders including policymakers, academia, legal fraternity, media, Government, and MDA’s
Work closely with Agriterra and coordinate joint activities organized by UCA and or Agriterra
Build and maintain professional relationships with UCA members, Cooperators, partners, policymakers, and other key stakeholders on key priority areas in line with the UCA Strategic Plan
Support UCA Communication & marketing team to develop advocacy materials to educate & create awareness
Form advocacy teams, forums, platforms, and dialogues for developing Accountable, Well-Informed, and Relevant policy proposals
Prepare and submit timely, elaborate, and acceptable activity reports that demonstrate accountability
Prepare work plans, and budgets and build a robust system for staff development, motivation, and supervision within the department and or Unit.
Organize/coordinate events that build a wider network of partners that are aimed at promoting UCA and Agriterra visibility
