UGA.2303 - Junior Expert in Human Rights Research (ASF), Kampala, Uganda
Reference: Final date for application: The Junior Programme, executed by Enabel, offers the opportunity for talented young people of various origin, gender and education backgrounds to contribute professionally to international solidarity projects. Through their experience they develop the competences to actively and sustainably engage in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Junior Programme aims to make them active and critical global citizens who are committed to the SDGs.
The Junior Experts work at least 1 and at most 2 years in a project of Enabel or of one of the Non-governmental Actors (NGA) that are affiliated with the Junior Programme.
The Programme Junior only accepts young people aged 30 at most.

Maximum contract extension: 12 months

Context
In East Africa, ASF promotes human rights based approaches to socio economic development and governance of public affairs. Countries of the region follow a paradigm of semi-authoritarion development, where democratic oversight, public participation and accountability play little role. They seek to promote the participaiton of civil society in socio-economic development and governance. Our final beneficiaries are victims of human rights violations, in particular people affected by investment projects, people abusively detained or arrested, victims of gross human rights violations, women and girls seeking justice.

Function
The Junior Expert will support the advocacy objectives and key activities with legal research. The research is carried out with final beneficiaries, intermediate beneficiaries and target groups, and answers the regional objectives of ASF for East Africa.
Profile
Required training/degree (eliminatory on CV): Master or Professional Bachelor’s Degree
Law/Criminology
Required specific knowledge (eliminatory on CV):
Professional experience in research in the field of human rights (min. 6 months)
Preferred assets (not eliminatory on CV):
Strong commitment to advancing Rule of Law and human rights
Knowledge of East African context
Thematic expertise with civil liberties and investment projects.
Language skills:
English: full fluency (working language)
French: full fluency
Dutch: basic knowledge (level A2)

Admission criteria
Only candidates who meet the following prerequisite admission criteria by 23 March 2023 can apply: 1. Hold Belgian nationality or be a citizen of a member state of the European Economic Union or the Swiss Confederation.
2. Born after 23rd March 1992.
3. Able to deliver an extract from their criminal record to prove their behaviour in accordance with the requirements of the job and enjoying full civil and political rights.
4. Specific criteria (see job profile).
