Responsibilities or duties

The Assistant lecturer will provide high-quality teaching, research, student supervision and academic leadership in Software Development, Programming and related Information Technology disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to combine theoretical knowledge with practical and industry-relevant software development skills.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Software Development, Programming, Computer Science and Information Technology,
  • Deliver practical and theoretical instruction in programming and software engineering,
  • Teach and apply programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, JavaScript, PHP, C# or other relevant languages,
  • Teach software engineering principles, software development methodologies and application development,
  • Guide students in the design, development, testing and deployment of software applications,
  • Teach web and mobile application development where applicable,
  • Teach database design, management and integration with software applications.
  • Supervise student software development projects, research projects and dissertations,
  • Develop practical laboratory exercises, programming assignments and competency-based assessments,
  • Participate in curriculum development, review and quality assurance,
  • Conduct research and publish scholarly articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals,
  • Participate in innovation, technology transfer, consultancy and community engagement,
  • Establish linkages with the ICT industry and promote practical learning and employability of graduates,
  • Participate in departmental and university academic activities,
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department, Dean or relevant University authority.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Applicants should possess:

  • A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a closely related field from a recognised university,
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related computing discipline,
  • Demonstrated competence in software development and programming,
  • Evidence of university or tertiary-level teaching experience,
  • Evidence of research and scholarly publication is an added advantage,
  • Practical experience in software development, application development or the ICT industry is an added advantage
  • Knowledge on Competence Based Teaching is an added advantage.
  • PhD track will be an added advantage
