Girls Not Brides Uganda (GNBU), in partnership with the Child Rights Empowerment and Development Organisation (CEDO), is seeking a visionary, high-caliber leader to drive our national collective advocacy and programmatic strategy.
Job Summary:
Operating within a complex national landscape where 34% of girls are married before the age of 18, this critical senior role coordinates an alliance of 144 civil society organisations. The CPM serves as the strategic engine to advance the rights of
adolescent girls and track the implementation of Uganda’s National Strategy to End Child Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Influencing & Advocacy: Lead high-impact policy, legislative, and financing initiatives to harmonize contradictions between statutory laws and the Customary Marriage Act 1973.
- Programme Delivery & Grant Oversight: Drive the implementation, budgeting, risk management, and grant compliance of coalition-led programmes across 34 target districts.
- Coalition Coordination: Cultivate seamless, transparent collaboration and decision-making frameworks across all 144 member organizations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a credible national representative with government bodies, international development partners, and donors.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Education: Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Human Rights, Law, Public Policy, or a related humanitarian discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of a proven track record coordinating complex civil society networks or development coalitions.
- Contextual Depth: In-depth, functional expertise in the Ugandan legislative environment and child protection mechanisms.
- Skills: Elite multi-stakeholder facilitation capacity and exceptional command of written English for high-level data briefs.
- Safeguarding: Absolute alignment with zero-tolerance policies regarding child abuse, exploitation, or harassment.
