Desirable

  • Membership of a recognised professional body is desirable such as: Institute of Surveyors in Uganda (ISU), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Project Management Institute (PMI) or other professional bodies of any engineering field.
  • Experience with donor-funded or government infrastructure projects, project development and formulation is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5-10 years of progressive experience in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Contract Administration, Cost Control, or Project Controls within the construction, engineering, building services, infrastructure, or EPC sectors, with proven involvement in electrical, mechanical, plumbing (MEP), and civil works projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in the commercial management of construction projects, including cost estimation, budgeting, cost planning, procurement support, contract administration, project cost control, cash flow management, forecasting, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Proven experience managing the commercial aspects of medium to large-scale MEP and civil works projects, including preparation and evaluation of tender submissions, quantity take-offs, bills of quantities, subcontract administration, variation management, and final account preparation.
  • Strong track record in cost optimisation and value engineering initiatives, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve project profitability, enhance efficiency, and achieve project financial objectives without compromising quality, safety, or technical requirements.
  • Experience in subcontractor and supplier management, including the evaluation of quotations, administration of subcontract agreements, assessment of payment applications, variation negotiations, claims management, and final account settlement.
  • Experience supporting tendering, bid preparation, and project development activities, including cost estimation, commercial reviews, pricing strategies, risk assessments, and bid evaluations for building, MEP, civil, infrastructure, or EPC projects.
  • Strong experience in the administration of construction contracts and subcontract agreements, including contract interpretation, compliance monitoring, commercial correspondence, variation management, claims preparation, extension of time (EOT) assessments, and dispute resolution support.
  • Sound knowledge of standard forms of contract, including FIDIC, NEC, JCT, or similar construction contracts, with practical experience applying contractual provisions in project delivery and commercial management environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage contractual compliance, commercial risks, claims, variations, extensions of time, and dispute resolution processes while safeguarding the company’s commercial interests and supporting profitable project delivery.
  • Experience working closely with Commercial Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, Consultants, Clients, Suppliers, and Subcontractors in multidisciplinary construction environments involving electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and civil works.
