The Communications Specialist is essentially the eyes and ears of Amazima in Uganda, documenting the lives of those the organization serves.

Amazima Ministries International is based in Buikwe district.  Amazima’s mission is to live out the love of Jesus by educating and empowering the people of Uganda and the communities we serve.  

Amazima is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our Communications team. We are looking for someone to work alongside our Amazima staff in Uganda and report to our Amazima USA staff in Nashville, Tennessee.


POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Communications Specialist is a member of the Uganda staff at The Amazima School and reports to the Amazima Stateside Communications team. The position acts as a liaison and connection between Amazima stateside, The Amazima School in Njeru, Uganda, and the growing community of donors and supporters of Amazima. The Communication Specialist’s primary responsibilities involve the collection, authoring, and uploading of content and media to support the Communications team stateside, as well as other communications meant for use on the Internet and in print both for Amazima stateside, and in support of The Amazima School’s marketing and communication needs in Uganda. The Communications Specialist is essentially the eyes and ears of Amazima in Uganda, documenting the lives of those the organization serves.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS

  • Works as a liaison between US team and Uganda for stories, videos, and photos needed on-site/campus or surrounding areas
  • Interviews students/staff/families to write stories and highlight events taking place in Uganda
  • Communicates with a stateside team overseas about communication needs
  • Produces content for stories, highlighted students/events
  • Compiles interviews used for stories, emails, and donor reports
  • Works with student mentors and students to receive approval for the stories we share
  • Produces and delivers content for blogs, emails, social media platforms to the US Communications Managers
  • Gathers basic information of students including contact information, parent/guardian information, mentor information, story and family needs
  • Documents student life at The Amazima School
  • Provides communications support to the Leadership team in Uganda
  • Participates in teleconference meetings and audio calls
  • Assists with retail needs
  • Transport from Uganda to the USA
  • Going to the marketplace to see product options
  • Working with Uganda retail coordinator
  • Capturing stories behind Amazima’s retail (artisans/relationships)

CORE COMPETENCIES/SKILLS/EDUCATION NEEDED

  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, English, Communications or related degree, or equivalent amount of related experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years professional experience
  • Excellent organizational skill and multitasking ability
  • Comfortable interviewing students, families, and mentors
  • Demonstrates timeliness with due dates and deliverables
  • Passionate about faith, relationships, and discipleship
  • Collaborates with Amazima staff and mentors/team player
  • Skills in writing and speaking fluent English
  • Social media or content marketing experience is a plus
  • Previous work experience with other non-profit organizations is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
