Job Description/Requirements

  • To support the Management function, RSM (Eastern Africa) Consulting Ltd is inviting applications from Proactive & dynamic individuals for the position of Group Finance Manager/Controller for one of their clients. 

The Group Finance Manager/ Controller  (a minimum of Eight (8) years of working experience in Finance management of which three (3) must have been gained at middle management at a reputable organization), will report directly to the Group CEO and will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the finance & accounting function of the company (ies). 
  • Overseeing Financial and Accounting system controls and standards used by the company(ies). 
  • Ensuring the timely provision of company financial and statistical reports for management
  • Ensuring that all accounting functions are accurately and effectively fulfilled.

Duties and responsibilities

Result area & result

Financial reporting

Result 1: Financial reports are provided accurately and timely to the Board of Directors and the CEO as required. 

Tasks may include:

  • Supervise the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual company financial reports and final accounts for each entity

Result 2: All reports are compliant with the relevant standards, guidelines, and legislation

Tasks may include: 

  • Ensure that all reports are in accordance with recognized reporting standards, company financial guidelines and applicable relevant legislation.


Result 1: All financial transactions and records are compliant with all relevant standards and legislation at all times.

Tasks may include:

  • Keep aware of developments of relevant new standards, guidelines, and legislation
  • Review financial management practices and recordkeeping procedure for compliance
  • Random checking the execution and compliance with relevant procedures
  • Escalating any issues that need resolution to ensure prompt action

Result 2: The company has audited accounts available within 2 months of the end of the financial year.

Tasks may include:

  • Co-ordinate annual audits and ensure these are completed timely
  • Work with the financial team to ensure all records are ready and available for audit on time

Budget management

Result 1. Ensure that all departments and companies have suitable budgets in place. 

Tasks may include:

  • Support the heads of departments in the preparation of suitable budgets as needed. 

Result 2. All expenses are reported against budgets and budgets are adhered to within 5-10% range.

Tasks may include:

  • Periodically monitor expenses against budgets 
  • Develop relevant budget reporting formats for the accounting team to use

Result 3. Expenses and investments are cost effective.

Tasks may include:

  • Identify and create cost efficiencies across departments and/or group companies

Cashflow management

Result 1. A 12 month cashflow forecast is available for all group companies, and the group as a whole, based on budgets and sales projections

Tasks may include:

  • Consolidating budgets into cashflow forecasts
  • Working with departments and financial teams to ensure awareness and completion of financial targets
  • Monitoring receivables 
  • Informing the CEO and the board of deviations from the budgets and cash flow as needed.

Result 2: Shortfalls of cash are accurately forecasted and mitigated.

Tasks may include:

  • Prepare cash flow forecasts on a monthly basis to highlight cash reserves or the lack of the same and escalate to the CEO

Finance system

Result 1. The financial management system is appropriate, easy to use, and compliant will all relevant laws and legislation

Tasks may include:

  • Lead the continuous improvement of the finance system (software, policies, procedures, reporting formats, and other tools) ensuring it successfully meets all group needs. 
  • Continuously monitor the performance of the accounting software. 
  • Suggest changes to the system as and when needed
  • Training of staff as and when needed

Tax management

Result 1: The group is aware and compliant with all tax requirements.

Tasks may include:

  • Periodic review and filing of statutory returns as required, including Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, NSSF, WHT and LST 
  • Keep aware of developments in the tax system in Uganda
  • Inform the CEO and the Board of relevant changes in the tax system and what they mean for the group
  • Proactively manage tax reserves as needed

Finance team

Result 1. The financial team is empowered and capable to execute the work required.

Tasks may include:

  • Supervise the accounting staff in all group companies
  • Share knowledge and where relevant coach other team members. 
  • Assist with the recruitment, retention, development, and performance management of finance staff in all group companies
  • Develop performance management guidelines and provide in-house training and development to the finance staff.

Academic qualifications

  • An honor’s Bachelor’s Degree in either Commerce or Business Administration or Economics or Accounting or Finance or any other related course from a recognized institution.
  • Possession of either ACCA or CPA is a mandatory requirement
  • A Masters qualification may be an added qualification

Technical competencies

• Excellent knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards 

• Good knowledge of the tax compliance regime in Uganda 

• Experience in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports

 Good knowledge and competence in using computer programmes like excel, word, PowerPoint.

Behavioral competencies
