Head of Global Support Unit (GSU)

Organisation Description: Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. is a German Christian non-governmental organisation, dedicated to excellence in the field of first aid, ambulance service, social service programmes and other projects in the medical and social field. The Federal Headquarters (HQ) are based in Berlin, Germany. Johanniter International Assistance is the operational unit for humanitarian aid, development co-operation and emergency relief, implementing and supporting projects in Health, Nutrition, WASH as well as Food Security & Income Generation worldwide. Overall Job Purpose
The GSU is a global unit with the aim to strengthen operational systems and processes at country office level and function as 2nd level of control. The Head of GSU will be setting up and leading this global unit, ensuring that it delivers on its mandate within the revised global support-operating model. You will be working closely with HQ and the country offices, in the International Management Group, and in particular the Heads of Support Desks at HQ, Finance, Logistics/IT and HR as well as the Head of Global Strategy and Learning and Head of Accountability and Compliance. The position is based in Kampala, an alternative location aligned to another of Johanniter offices can be considered.
In a Nutshell
Contribute to the implementation of the global JIA strategy, developing the strategic planning framework of the GSU and the support structures for JIA.
Manage the staff in Kampala and over distance as direct supervisor / line manager as well as in matrix management set-ups.
10 years’ experience in a humanitarian context/international development, minimum 5 years in a leadership position.
Context related work experience at field level with strong experience in either Finance, Logistics or HR, ideally also working with partner organisations.
Relevant experience in working in network organisations and/or association structures.
Experience in development and implementation of global strategies and delivery of capacity building programmes.
