Job Purpose
To provide effective teaching and learning of Runyankore-Rukiga in accordance with the approved curriculum and to promote students’ language proficiency, cultural awareness, communication skills and appreciation of Uganda’s cultural heritage.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The teacher will:
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and appropriate instructional materials.
- Teach Runyankore-Rukiga effectively at assigned classes.
- Develop students’ competence in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- Conduct continuous assessment, tests and examinations.
- Mark students’ work and maintain accurate academic records.
- Provide feedback and remedial support to students.
- Use appropriate learner-centred and activity-based teaching methods.
- Promote appreciation of language, culture, literature and heritage.
- Encourage students to participate in language-related clubs and cultural activities.
- Prepare students adequately for national and school examinations.
- Maintain discipline and promote positive values during lessons and school activities.
- Participate in departmental meetings and curriculum planning.
- Support school co-curricular and cultural activities.
- Perform assigned school duties and other responsibilities given by the Head Teacher.
Minimum Qualifications
- A recognised Diploma or Degree in Education with Runyankore-Rukiga as a teaching subject.
- Registration with the relevant education authorities is preferred/required as applicable.
Experience
- Previous teaching experience at secondary-school level is an advantage.
Key Competencies
- Excellent command of Runyankore-Rukiga and English.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Good classroom-management abilities.
- Strong knowledge of language teaching methodologies.
- Creativity in teaching language and literature.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to student welfare and safeguarding.
